Guide for Authors

Instructions for Authors

General

The only submission of original manuscripts that are not being considered for publication elsewhere can be considered. Standard ethics in publishing apply. Adequate paraphrase is required because the Journal of Advances in Clinical and Experimental Dentistry (ACED) does not tolerate any plagiarism.

Declaration of interest

All financial and personal relationships with a HUE staff, which might influence (bias) the consideration of the author’s work, must be disclosed.  The following statements must be verified.

Unless otherwise specified, all disclaimers must read as follows.

Notes: None

Acknowledgments: None

Funding resources: None

Conflict of interest: The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest.

Informed consent (if applicable): Obtained and emailed to the editor-in-chief.

Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted online. Except for the inaugural volume, please visit the following link to upload your files:

https://aced.journals.ekb.eg/

Email submission is accepted only for the inaugural volume (editor@horus.edu.eg).

Author contributions

For transparency, HUE encourages all authors to submit an authorial statement that defines the contribution of each scholar on the authors’ list.  The recognized contributions include designing the study, processing and collecting data, analyzing data and drawing conclusions, describing the methodology and writing the manuscript. Language editing and statistical analysis do not suffice for a contributor to be a co-author. Yet, this effort should be acknowledged.

Copyright

HUE holds the copyright for all published articles. All authors concede to this by submitting their manuscripts to HUE’s ACED [Creative Common License: Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)].

Language (usage and editing services)

Please write your text in American English. Authors who wish to benefit from some English language editing to improve readability and eliminate possible grammatical or spelling errors are encouraged to contact a qualified native speaker with adequate medical background. If connecting with experienced language editors is not accessible, authors may use the English proofreading service from HUE’s Author Services. HUE’s Center for Author Services provides professional help with conducting statistics, image analysis, external review, proofreading, reference formatting and checking similarity indices. For more information, contact research@horus.edu.eg

Double anonymized review

This journal uses double anonymized review. Therefore, title pages (with author details) must be uploaded as separate files. Blinded manuscript (no author details) comes next. The main body of the paper must be anonymized (no identifying information about the authors or their affiliations can be provided). Each submission is sent out to 5-8 international reviewers. However, authors may recommend some referees by providing their names and institutional email addresses should the editor choose to assign one of them. HUE pays each reviewer a modest honorarium to express gratitude for sharing knowledge and spending time on reviewing ACED’s submissions. The used payment method is PayPal.

Article structure

Abstract

A concise and structural abstract of not more than 200 words is required. The abstract should be structured to state the objective of the research, the used method, the tentative results and major conclusions briefly.  In the case of state-of-art articles, the abstract must be structured into

-        Background

-        Objectives

-        Results

-        Advances in Knowledge

-        Conclusion

Keywords

Kindly provide a maximum of 6 Medical subject headings (MeSH).

Types of accepted manuscripts

ACED publishes only three types of articles:

1. State-of-the-Art research papers.

2. Systematic review and meta-analysis (with a high level of evidence).

3. Original papers that describe novel techniques or discoveries.

All manuscripts must present “Take-home Messages” for the reader by the end of each paper.

Figure/ Tables captions

Ensure that each illustration has a caption. Supply captions separately, not attached to the figure. A caption should comprise a brief title (not on the figure itself) and a description of the illustration.

Color illustrations: authors will be expected to pay a fee for any color illustrations appearing in the print version of their article ($350 per figure). Alternatively, figures can appear in black and white in the printed version with color versions appearing online (for which there is no charge). Please indicate your preferred option when prompted during the online submission process. Tables must be on separate page(s) at the end.

Formats

Please make sure that artwork files are in an acceptable format (TIFF (or JPEG), with the correct resolution. The resolution requirements for line drawings, halftones, and line/halftone combinations are given below:

TIFF (or JPEG): Color or grayscale photographs (halftones), keep to a minimum of 400 dpi.

TIFF (or JPEG): Bitmapped (pure black & white pixels) line drawings, keep to a minimum of 2000 dpi.

TIFF (or JPEG): Combinations bitmapped line/half-tone (color or grayscale), keep to a minimum of 600 dpi.

References

Kindly use the Vancouver style sheet and provide DOIs and PMIDs for each citation. Contaminating citation with articles published by fake journals disqualify your submission.

Example for acceptable formatting:

In-text citation: Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given.

Article Processing Charges

Because ACED is an open-access journal, article processing charges apply. The publication fee is payable only after the acceptance of an article. Submission fee applies too.
